Monday, January 30, is Draw a Dinosaur Day. You can participate however you like, but if you want to share your participation with the wider community of Dinosaur Drawers <cough cough>, you can do so here.
Seems pretty easy and nonthreatening.
On the other hand, there's Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir, for which videos must be submitted by Tuesday. I have been meaning to check this out for some time, since Stacy Horn has been writing about it, and finally did so this weekend. The first Virtual Choir brought me to tears.
Watch:
This was the first one. Then there was Virtual Choir 2.0. Now people can submit their own videos for Virtual Choir 3, which will be presented as an art exhibit as well as a YouTube video. (Watch the TED talk if you want to know how it's put together.)
You know how I feel about singing, and I find this just incredibly moving. Stacy has already addressed all my fears: "I know my voice isn't all that great. How awful will I LOOK on video?" And somehow that gives me courage. But there's no way I can learn the piece and get it recorded to my satisfaction in three days.
So for now I will live vicariously through Stacy (and watch avidly for her contribution to the final edited video). And hope for a Virtual Choir 4.0 someday.
What a cool thing.
Guess I'll draw a dinosaur.
